Books For Change USA Classroom Library: Local Mini-Grant Application
The mission of Books for Change USA is to provide access to quality books both locally and globally. Books for Change USA will support book distribution programs and other educational initiatives, especially in communities with high poverty and low literacy rates. Books for Change USA will work to create and empower a global community of readers one book and one child at a time.
The purpose of this grant is to increase the quantity, quality, and diversity of books in elementary classroom libraries in Whitfield, Murray, Catoosa, Walker, and Gordon counties (Georgia). Classroom libraries and book clubs play a key role in providing access to books and promoting literacy. They have the potential to increase student motivation, engagement, and achievement, and they help students become critical thinkers, analytical readers, and informed citizens. Most importantly, they help instill a love of reading and build reader identity. Books For Change USA believes that classroom libraries and book clubs should 1) offer a wide range of books that appeal to and support the needs of students with different interests and abilities; 2) provide access to books that reflect diverse cultures, perspectives, and social identities; and 3) open up opportunities for student choice and enjoyment of reading authentic texts.
This grant is open to K-8 classroom teachers from Whitfield, Murray, Catoosa, Walker, and Gordon counties (Georgia). Recipients will receive $300.00 to be used for the purchase of books and materials for classroom libraries and book clubs. The application window is from July 8, 2026- July 29, 2026. Ten local educators will be awarded the grant. The grant winners will be announced on August 9, 2026.
